The island is famous for its kilometre-long, gold-yellow and beautiful wide sandy beaches. They fall usually flat off into the sky-blue resplendent Atlantic and form thus a bathing paradise off a beauty that is rarely found. Whether you opt for a long walk on the beach, a water sport like swimming, surfing, scuba diving or sailing, or if you simply want to relax in the sun and work your tan: Fuerteventura's beaches are waiting for you.
Playa de Mattoral In the south of Fuerteventura is this on the average 60 m wideand 3 km long, fine sandy Playa del Matorral the main attraction of the peninsula Jandía and connects the two holiday centres Morro Jable and Jandía Playa. In front of the promenade of Jandía Playa changes the bright beach into a salt meadow under nature protection. This biotope, which is flooded again and again, is the homeland of an unusual Flora. Particularly during the main season the Playa del Matorral is very active, nevertheless the golden beach never looks really overcrowded. The further you go eastward, the unimpaired you can enjoy the beach. The Playa del Matorral has with parasols and beach chair rental business, sanitary mechanisms and various beach bars an excellent infrastructure. Also the sport offer is rich; one can sail, surf and dive. All 500 m awakes a lifeguard over the security of the beach visitors.
Playa de Butihondo The Playa de Butihondo lies in the south of Fuerteventura. From Jandía Playa the long sandy beach stretches for approximately 1.5 km northwards along the coast. The section Playa de Butihondo is in the proximity of the club Aldiana. The bright, on the average 45 m broad sandy beach runs underneath a cliff and can become quite narrow with tide. The direct approach road to the beautiful beach with its beach restaurant with parasol and beach chair rental business makes this beach particularly popular for families with children.
Playa de Esquinzo The Playa de Esquinzo is located at the south coast of Fuerteventura, approximately 8 km northeast of Jandía Playa. Visitors reach the fine, white sandy beach by long stone stairs. On a length of 3 km sun worshippers have plentifully place for their beach sheets. For the one who would like it more comfortable, rents a beach chairs. For the physical well-being it is provided with several beach bars.
Playa de Cofete and Playa de Barlovento The beautiful, completely unaffected beach is at the windy north coast of the peninsula Jandía in the proximity of the village Cofete. The gold-yellow sand is suitable particularly for expanded beach walks. Together with the more east Playa de Barlovento the Playa de Cofete forms a singular, approximately 10 km long under nature protection standing beach landscape. The two beaches are separated by the rock cliff El Islote. By the natives the protruding cape is called "Roque de las siete mujeres" (rock of the seven women) and reminds thereby of seven young girls, who drowned with a bath. The Playa de Cofete is the western of the two beaches and somewhat more animated than the Playa de Barlovento. Here nature lovers come fully at their expense, but must pay attention when bathing to the malicious sometimes strong currents.
Playa de Sotavento At the southeast coast of the peninsula Jandía the area of the white Playas de Sotavento extends over a length of approx. 20 km. In the centre an elongated lagoon and 2 high dunes, which reaches the sea, form the most beautiful section of the beach. While the Playas de Sotavento at the northern end with Costa Calma is quite animated, they are further south almost deserted. At the northern part also the possibility exists of borrowing beach chairs and sun screens. Today one knows that the white sand of the endless beaches consists of ground shell bowls, which the Canary gulf brought here. The Playas de Sotavento de Jandía is ideal not only for bathing, but it is also a true paradise for divers. Only a few boat minutes away from the bank a fascinating underwater landscape with innumerable shell banks and caves is to discover. In addition, this beach is well-known world-wide as a surf spot since some years ago the world championships of surfing and kite-surfing started to be organized here every year.
Playa de Costa Calma From the holidays place Costa Calma it is only a short walk up to the beach of the same name with its bright sand gently sloping into the turquoise-blue water. Its protected situation makes that approximately 3 km long and between 80 and 150 m broad beach the ideal place for families with children. On the southern section of the beach you can sun-bathe and build sand-castles. A beach chair and a sun screen rental business as well as a bar provide the necessary comfort for the bathers.
Playa Del Cotillo EL Cotillo is touristic hardly developed area. The complete bathing range consists of some bays, which are separated from each other by lava rock and - stones in the sea. Although the bay is located at the west coast, bathing is possible here. You can bathe nude here. The beach is suitable also for children, since the sea is very flat.
Playa de Corralejo Opposite the small neighbour island Lobos in the north of Fuerteventura are the Playas de Corralejo, the most beautiful beaches of the peninsula Maxorata. The fantastic dune beaches of very fine white sand, which are interrupted from time to time by flat lava backs, are altogether approximately 8 km long. Here you can find everything that your heart desires: far, flat dropping beaches for walking and sun bathing as well as a rich offer for water sport fans. Above all El Río, the strait between Corralejo and Lobos, is a famous water sport district. Divers do not only come here fully at their expense, those up to 5 m high waves are also ideal for surfing.
Playa de la Calera The Playa de la Calera is on the island Los Lobos, the small neighbour island of Fuerteventura standing under nature protection. The beach exists mainly of fine, bright sand, up to some small sections, which are rockier. It lies in a flat, crescent-shaped bay and is protected by a pre-aged rock barrier against the surf, so that you can bathe here in relatively calm water or enjoy the sun in the back-country.
Playa de la Pared You will find the Playa de la Pared at the southern west coast of Fuerteventura, close of the narrowest place of the island. The 250 m long and on the average 20 m broad beach is very popular particularly with natives. A visit is already worthwhile because of the interesting colour plays, which one can observe with ebb-tide and favourable lighting conditions on the stones and rock plates - with tide the golden, fine sand disappears often completely under the brawly spume. Also the ones, who love romantic sunsets, should attend these bays. After the impressing play one can dine in the restaurant above the bay.
